Overview
Live Together Shelter is a unique combined animal and homeless shelter. This was this last project I designed while completing Google’s Professional UX Design Certificate.
Problem: Homeless individuals have limited options for shelter and if they have an animal, they have even less options. Live Together Shelter aims to shelter anyone and everyone, and to provide an environment where people and animals can bond.
Solution: Live Together Shelter aims to shelter all homeless individuals and stray animals in need, and to provide essential resources and services. Through offering these resources and services, the goal is create special bonds between humans and animals and give them a second chance at life.
My Role: UX Designer and Researcher
Research
I choose California as the state Live Together Shelter would reside in due to the fact that the state has the largest homeless population in the U.S. Though my research I found that that there is a need for homeless shelters that allow animal companions.
Key Insights
California has the highest homeless population in the United States. CA is home to an estimated 181,399 homeless people.
Out of the 181,399 homeless Californians, an estimated 3000-6000 of them have pets to care for.
In California there are 732 homeless shelters, and only 5 of them allow pets.
Define
After my research was complete, I created a sample user persona to represent common user goals and pain points.
